So, the last time I made a ‘rocket car’ with a homemade solid fuel rocket motor, it fired and worked well. This time I made a much bigger rocket with a greater yield with a ‘secret sauce’ tweak to the recipe to improve the burn rate. I also used remote detonation for more control and a mild steel rocket housing and support.
It burnt very cleanly with little residue left behind in the rocket housing which is a good sign, and it definitely produced thrust!
Next time we’ll make an even bigger rocket and fire it on a smoother flatter surface strapped to someone wearing roller-skates and flame retardant overalls. (Seriously)
We may then even be in for a chance of winning the prestigious title of the ‘Fastest homemade rocket propelled roller-skater in East Sussex’.
We dream big at HOPE Sussex!
